Nam Ngum Lake trip เขื่อนน้ำงึม

Nam Ngum Lake, 1 day tour

Nam Ngum is Laos's biggest water reservoir and obviously protected natural area where you will find traditional Lao houses and culture only.

The trip takes us on national road 13 N, visit to resettlement village, visit the evidence of old civilization of Khmer empire Vangxang followed by a cruise with long tail boat at the lake and a stop with the opportunity to shop the handicraft at the roadside

The schedule - morning
Our trip starts early morning by 8:30 am by mini-van. About 1.5 hrs later we will have a stop to visit a Hmong village. You may take the opportunity to will visit hmong people, most of them have moved down from the east during Vietnam War and a part of them has been resettled from southeast because of hydro power dam construction. You can listen to their unique language and you also can see their sewing skills.

Leaving Km 52 we would proceed to Vangxang sacred Buddha image
(Blessing status). This image has been built in the 13th century.
We then take you to have lunch with spectacular view at the Nam-ngum lake side restaurant where you can try excellent fresh fish from the lake.
The schedule - afternoon
After lunch you will take longtail boat to cruise to the islands spreaded over the water reservoir. Watch the fishermen on the lake and if lucky enough, you got to see some exotic birds as well.

On our way back from the lake on road 10 we shall stop at a village where locals are producing salt. Very interesting, don't forget Laos is a land-locked country!
We slowly drive back to a local market before we complete the trip by 7 pm in Vientiane.
